I do play trumpet, and I am not irritated by his playing abilities, he is one of my many idols, and I aspire to play like him.

I think they are both very well played in their own right. I actually like Phil Smith's a little more, but that is just me, opinions differ.

Wynton marsalis's cadenza makes so much more sense than Phil smith's

he's playing an Eb trumpet.

Este video suena mejor que la grabación que tengo.

Im a Trombonist but I enjoy the sound of a Trumpet in a classical peice of music like this one. Especially coming from a virtuoso like Marsalis.

I don't play the trumpet, but I can understand why (fellow) trumpeters would be irritated and in awe of Marsalis. His clarity and assurance is so breathtaking that it must be hard to pick up the instrument after listening to him.
I have perfect pitch. I can tell you that every note, without exception is DEAD on perfect. And it is a very musical performance.
