How ironic the first TV maximum somehow involved John Spencer in 1982 - When in the late 1970s,Spencer made a 147 himself.......BUT, they were on a commercial break or not broadcasting at that point?! - Ofcourse, the greatest player of the 1980s Steve Davis HAD to have the first televised maximum accolade!

What a great professional and player. He was the best in the 80s totally dominated the world of snooker and was always humble in winning or defeat. I will never understand how he lost a world title to Joe Johnson - whom never really won anything after that final. However he did extract his revenge when he met Johnson the following year and rightly so. Young players should use Davis as a template for there focus on how to be the best at what you really want. Take a bow Mister Davis.

David Taylor, wasn't he the first player to make 3 consecutive century breaks in a tournament match?
StevieJ72 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
...and I bet HE wished he'd played like this in the world championship that year. Nontheless, this was great break from 'the nugget' - watch him pot that last red, piston perfection! (and under huge pressure - he wanted it, that's for sure). What an excellent example and standard he set during the eighties. He was a great champion.
