Eddie Van Halen openly admits he was trying to sound like Leslie West when he got his "brown sound" back in the day when he used plexi Marshalls.
The first time I heard Mountain I nearly shat myself from the cacophony of beautiful sound produced by Leslie West's guitar.

Leslie's guitar from Woodstock is on display at the Hard Rock Hotel/Casino in Tampa, FL, I sat in front of the case for it there to chill out for about 30 mins.
