To me the issue is TOLERANCE. If a spiritual philosophy teaches its adherents to accept all peoples and cultures, and respect their mythologies and traditions, I think that is good. IT IS ONLY WHEN ONE GROUP CLAIMS TO KNOW THE EXCLUSIVE TRUTH (fundamentalism) THAT SPIRITUAL BELIEF BECOMES A PROBLEM FOR ME.I dont mind being called a theist -- as long as the definition of god is understood to be the VAST INTERCONNECTED WHOLE OF ALL ENERGY SYSTEMS IN THE UNIVERSE, OF WHICH WE ARE ALL A PART.

but now you're not talking about the dangers to society that religion poses. no one cares what people do in the privacy of thier own homes, the big issue is people imposing that stuff on society. when doing that people die and our progress is hindered. this is a real problem.

What if they use alcohol to treat the cuts? what if they are trained medical practitioners? What if it "comforts" them? Doesnt hurt anyone...right? Delusions are dangerous. And people spread them to their children. It's a virus: faith.

we are talking about religious freaks again. so you break these ones and the cure prayers over the same knee. That is what I am saying. You can't just say nobody should believe in god just because some are using this believe as an excuse. If you pray you believe there is somebody who could maybe help you if nobody else can. That is kind of believing in god. and that is not that bad, in my opinion.

bonnie -- I know the term "New Age" is the popular derogatory term to make fun of folks with non-fundamentalist spiritual beliefs. But in "New Age" bookstores in the US, you can find books by Native American thinkers, Henry David Thoreau, Buddhists, Taoists, Shintoists, etc. If you include these spiritual philosophies under the heading of "Theists" you are in one sense correct, but in several senses incorrect. That is why I reserve my contempt for PATRIARCHAL MONOTHEISTIC FUNDAMENTALISTS.

The problems is the extremists which think that all the knowledge is given before and they do not understand that the Bible is a book of faith, not of science, it talks about ideas like many other books of faith, even Jesus preached in the form of tales...If I want an answer to a scientific question I will look it in an science book, not religious one... And yes, I am an European Christian, have a degree in Physics, and do not have a problem with my personal idea of God... |
