Tiger muskies are by far more dumb and easier to catch then pure strain Muskies. All Tigers are 50% pike 50% musky which make them fight much less, grow much smaller, and are prob 50% dumber then a real musky. A 45" tiger is considered trophy size. A 50" pure strain is considered trophy albiet they grow in the upper 50"s here in MN. You should learn how to gillplate so you dont loose your fingers! Also always keep the fish in the water until you are ready to take a photo. Bigger net is key.

Nice video, beautiful fish! The colour is just awesome. You can easily grab them by the neck (up to 24in) and the bigger ones can be landed by gripping the gill cover very tight. If they squirm, just thighten your grip, mind the hooks!

Sounds like you caught a Bowfin (aka dogfish), Amia calva. They are indeed from a primitive order of fish that includes the gar!
