http://www.thomasgrillo.com A short introductory theremin lesson to playing notes, executing dynamic vibratto, and dynamic volume with the theremin. Playing errors included to demonstrate how difficult it is to play the theremin well. To get a closer look at the aereal finger technique, right click on the video, select "zoom in" set to desired zoom, and drag the image to where you can see the hand. Instructed by Thomas Grillo on Moog Etherwave Pro theremin. This is not a substitute for professional how to play videos, books, or in-person instruction with a professional instructor. This video would not have been possible without the invaluable professional training videos, books, and workshops produced by Peter Pringle, Carolina Eyck, Pamelia Kurstin, and Lydia Kavina. All of their methods have been, and are still being studied by me. Copyright 2007 Thomas Grillo

The one seen here is the Etherwave Pro by Moog Music. It's discontinued. Starter theremins are the B3 $152, B3 Deluxe $200, and B3 Pro $350 at soundslikeburns on the web, and e-bay. Intermediate theremin is the Moog Music Etherwave Standard $400 at moogmusic, and online instrument retail outlets, and e-bay. Pro theremins are Wavefront Travelcase $800, and wavefront Classic Style $1800 at Wavefront.

You have obviously played for quite a while because you've got this down to a science lol. Great recognition of notes, scales in particular are impressive

wow this instrument really really impressed me. Im a badd player for a long time, im able to play about 17 different instruments but in my whole live i ve never seen an instrument like this. its just impressive. my first thought was: "wow, a super-synthezizer" thank you for showing me this.

Visit ethermusicfest on the web. They have a link to Hispano TV which video recorded the theremin orchestra back in April at Ethermusic 2008 in Asheviell North Carolina. Also, visit Kevinkissinger on the web. I believe he has a recording he did by multitracking multiple theremin lines he played on a piece called Ave Verum Corpus. I think he did at least 4 or 5 parts, all on theremin.

Modern theremins usually have between 5,and 6 plus octaves, but most theremin compositions are written to suit a 4 or 5 max octave range, just to be safe.
