Dogmeat7, When did the USA start putting decent cannons on the sherman though? Was it after the British said the standard tank didnt work? No. It was after USA took a complete thrashing and once the US tank drivers were calling them death traps. Its a bit like USa's day light bombing. Britain said dont do it. USA did it anyway and got a spanking, but to save face USA carried on doing it. Wasnt until korea USa finally addmitted night bombing was the only way. Stiff assed yanks!

Oh and there are more than one type of 76.2 mm gun, it was a VERY common caliber. Your right that the US did us a 76.2 mm but it wasn't the british 17pounder, the 17pounder was the same caliber of round but a much much more powerfull weapon.

Sorry dude but the Firefly was a british version equiped with the 17pounder (76.2 mm or 3inch) AT gun we had been using for a while as a point defence weapon.

also the the U.S didn't except the design because it was British the Crazy 8 was jsut fien the reason why the U.S didnt' want it was because they were already startign work on the Pershing with a 90mm gun. also the Firefly is a 105mm Howitzer. also the best the american Jumbo Sherman was the best Sherman having heavy armour compared to other models but only 715 were made 700 saw combat.

dogmeat u are a very ignorant person. The Sherman Firefly and M4 Sherman used different guns. Sherman upgraded later to 76mm while the Sherman Firefly used 89mm which is 17 pounder. It is not the same gun. Get ur facts right and go to wikipedia and search up sherman firefly and sherman tank. Go read the paragraph about sherman firefly it clearly stated that the british were trying to fit it into the m4 but Americans refused. And british went on to produce newer tanks. You idiot.

o...m...g the firefly an the Crazy 8 is the same damn GUN! also the shermans were very effective against armour they coudl go toe to toe with a pv4 an they were much faster then a tiger thing was France really isn't big tank country. most sherman tanks by September of 1944 had a 75mm or 76mm
