edwardeubanks Paul Simon's inspiration for this was based on an old time gospel song, the Swan Silvertone's version of "Mary Don't You Weep". Claude Jeter had a line that went "I'll be your bridge over troubled waters".

Aretha is performing LIVE on Dancing with the Stars tomorrow on ABC at 8pm. It will be live, and she will rock it. Oh yes, she will.

i Love Arethas version more because it has soul and its a song that makes you happy

This is the only cover of this song I can stand, mostly because Aretha arranges it so differently. Every other cover is a singer with accompaniment, and you can't help but compare it to Art Garfunkel. Not Aretha. This is something else, it's the same song, but transformed. Instead of Art's heartbreaking rendition of undying friendship, Aretha erects a gospel tour-de-force. Where Art may be singing to his soulmate, Aretha is singing to that downhearted soul as if she were the voice of God.
