"Havlicek and Baylor were more perimeter oriented so they could be excused for shooting at that rate. Russell was a "post player". Centers/PF's should always shoot higher percentages than guards because most of their work is done closer to the rim."
Even if we take that into consideration, how do you explain Pettit's low shooting percentage then? He played in the post and had about the same percentage as Russell.

So MJ that called Hakeem the greatest center ever doesn't understand the game either? Uh huh.
I think Kareem and Hakeem were better centers. As well as Wilt.

You obviously don't understand the game. He Inspired evry player you speak of in more ways then one.... The GREATEST CENTER OF ALL TIME... Block Art!

MJ gave him his due? The same MJ that said Hakeem was the greatest center ever, and would start in his all-time starting 5? Show me where Kareem has ever called Russell the greatest ever?
Wilt called him his toughest test, but Wilt owned Russell statistically head to head in their careers, of course Russell was the more motivated and smarter player that made the clutch plays. But if you're dominated statistically then how are you the greatest?

His team and the entire NBA then and now says he is who u say he isn't. 11 career championships, eight in a row,one of two players ever to record fifty...50...FIFTY REBOUNDS in a single game, along with 10 blocks, seven assists. That was in a Finals game. He also recorded a game of 16 points 31 rebounds and 7 blocks. Nuff said! MJ and every other great in the game of b ball gives him his due, who in the hell are u not to? Is he the greatest center?... Ask the nba's top 50,.... it will b Bill.
FuShengAlex (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Never said he doesn't deserve his due. I just think other centers were better at many aspects compared to him.
heenky2 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
He simply earned it no matter what u say it is what it is, He played on a level that was unmatched by his opponents.Say what u want but 11 rings is eleven rings... eight in a row and one as a player coach...come on... b foreal!

Never said they weren't great. I am talking about blocks. If you're going to call Wilt/Bill the best shotblocker/defender ever, then you should factor the era they played in that aided their totals.
Fewer shots taken further away from the rim with no 3 pt. line.
Athleticism in later eras improved across the board which made it more difficult in 80s/90s.
And Russell never faced 3 of the top10 NBA scoring centers either, only 1. Jabbar faced 3, Hakeem faced 3. Wilt only faced 1

And not just Wilt, Jabbar, Moses, Ewing all shot above 50% for their careers. |
