Thank you for this brilliant video. My all-time favourite Joni Mitchell song. I can see why I was always so much in love with her: the most beautiful woman and voice of my generation.

First heard this on a maybe a MTVvideo maybe public TV of concert...1980?..maybe Miles of Aisles, w/Pat Metheney on guitar and Joni playing an acoustic. It literally blew me away in re: to my own crashes and burns. Can't find that version on youtube.

this was made from Joni Mitchell: Painting with Words and Music (she sang in 1999)DVD..it is a remarkable performance, with a stellar(small)band, and covers bits of her whole career. Highly recommended.

I agree...she creates her own guitar tunings...that is why it sounds the way it does.

this sounds nothing- nothing at all- like Diana Krall. I admire Ms. Krall, and think her a consummate artist. But Joni Mitchell is on another plane, no pun intended. the guitar part is unmistakable. her use of open tunings- first with open G learned from David Crosby in '66- is so very distinctive. She is a fearless, peerless artist, a gift.

Joni's talent just burns like an acetylene torch when she hits it just right, as she does in this song. She is a genuine virtuoso on the guitar, in her singing, and in some of her best writing she ascends to poetic heights rarely reached.
