This and Joey Shmoey (my dad's version of a Dick Bruna book) were my favourite kid's stories - brings back a lot of good memories. Contrary to urban legend, however, I was not the inspiration for the protagonist.

I's kind of scary at the part where Max arrives at the island or whatever, and the monsters are slowly moving around and rolling their eyes slowly. When I was 7 years old (11 years ago), my dad was going to paint characters on my bedroom wall and he gave me a choice of what characters for him to paint. I thought about asking him to paint the wild things and Max. But now I'm glad I decided not to pick them, because those monsters would be scary things to wake up to.

it's not gonna be digital. it'll be live action. i believe only the monsters' faces will be partially CGI or something along those lines
